A food delivery rider tragically lost his life after his motorcycle was struck by a car while attempting a U-turn at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman near Taman Ikhsan, Batu Berendam, Melaka yesterday evening.
Melaka Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief, Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat, reported that the collision occurred at approximately 7.05pm, involving a Honda C100 motorcycle and a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid.
The 31-year-old local rider, employed with an e-hailing service, was travelling from Peringgit when he tried to make a U-turn at the Taman Ikhsan junction. Simultaneously, the 66-year-old local car driver was heading from Taman Sutera Wangi towards Peringgit.
“The car struck the left side of the motorcycle as the rider attempted the turn,” said Zaki in a statement. The impact caused the rider to fall, resulting in severe head and body injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical officers.
The victim’s body has been sent to Melaka Hospital Forensic Department for post-mortem examination, while both vehicles were taken to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) in Alor Gajah for technical inspection.
Preliminary checks at the site revealed a U-turn prohibition sign, highlighting a potential factor in the incident. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Authorities have requested witnesses to contact Inspector Muhammad Afeeq Abdul Latif at 014-9706108 or report to the nearest police station.
