Foreign National Held After Aggressive Outburst Over Child Custody Argument At KLIA

Date:

A 33-year-old foreign national has been arrested and charged in court after allegedly damaging public property and assaulting security personnel during a viral incident at Terminal 2 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Kuala Lumpur International Airport).

KLIA district police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Ravi said the suspect was detained by officers from the KLIA district police headquarters at around 10.30am at the scene while he was waiting for a transit flight to Hat Yai, Thailand.

Investigations found that the man had missed his connecting flight and later became involved in a dispute with his wife over child custody matters, which escalated into a violent outburst.

During the incident, the suspect allegedly smashed a check-in counter glass panel, damaged a flight information signboard, threw a water bottle at the counter area, and injured a security officer on duty.

Police confirmed that the suspect pleaded guilty at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court on 7 April. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt, which carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

He was also charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for disorderly conduct, which carries a maximum fine of RM100.

Authorities have urged the public to comply with airport security instructions and avoid behaviour that may cause public disturbance, especially within airport terminals.

The incident went viral after a video clip surfaced on social media showing the man behaving aggressively, damaging signage at the T2 counter, and pushing security personnel to the ground.
