Twelve individuals have been detained to assist investigations into a Form Three student who allegedly fell from the third floor of a secondary school hostel in Sabak Bernam on August 26.
Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said one of those detained is believed to have a direct connection to the incident.
“Preliminary information from the police indicates that 12 people were detained, with one believed to be linked to the case. However, I leave it entirely to the police to conduct a thorough and professional investigation,” he told reporters after officiating a National Day lecture at the MBSA Convention Centre today.
Amirudin added that the state government has taken proactive measures, instructing Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman Datuk Rizam Ismail, who is also the state EXCO for Rural Development, Unity, and Consumer Affairs, to gather more information about the victim’s condition.
“Datuk Rizam has met with the victim’s family, including his mother and stepfather. The state government is ready to provide support for any measures necessary to ensure justice and a fair investigation,” he said.
He also noted that the Selangor State Health Department has been asked to closely monitor the victim. EXCO for Public Health Jamaliah Jamaluddin will update on the victim’s condition based on reports from the health department. “The victim is under careful observation as he is a key witness to the incident. Efforts are ongoing to ensure he can safely provide testimony on what actually happened,” he said.
Earlier reports stated that 15-year-old Ahmad Irfan Ahmad Hanafi is receiving treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital for serious injuries allegedly sustained after falling from the third floor of the hostel.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed that an investigation was opened immediately upon receiving the report, covering various angles including student safety, hostel management, and the social backgrounds of the victim and his friends. Several school staff have also been called in to provide statements to assist the ongoing investigation.
