A former Cabinet Minister has provided a statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection with allegations of bribes totaling around RM5 million and a luxury Lamborghini vehicle.
The ex-Minister, who served briefly before the COVID-19 pandemic, had previously faced several corruption charges in court and is now under investigation for alleged embezzlement during their tenure in a Ministry.
According to reports, the bribes are linked to a billboard project and a land transfer in the capital city. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that an investigation has been opened under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
So far, statements have been recorded from 16 witnesses, including government employees and company owners, to assist with the probe.
The luxury car is believed to have been given by a billboard manufacturing company, while a high-value piece of government land was allegedly transferred to a prominent property developer, who is said to have provided the RM5 million bribe.
“The former Minister appeared at MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya this morning (29 December) to have their statement recorded. Investigations are now tracing the source of the luxury car,” a source said.
“In the land case, initial findings indicate that land originally gazetted for the construction of a surau was transferred to a proxy company,” the source added.
