Fire and Rescue Department personnel were called in to assist police in retrieving the body of a man found at a construction site along Lebuh Gelugor here yesterday.
It is understood that the body was discovered by a passerby who was exercising nearby around 7 p.m. after noticing a foul smell.
Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station chief, A’azelan Hassan, said his team received a call at 9:09 p.m.
“Information received indicated that the body, believed to be that of a man in his 40s, was located behind a barrier within the construction area.
“The fire team used special equipment to cut through the barrier in order to retrieve the body,” he said when contacted by Harian Metro today.
The body was later sent to Penang Hospital for a post-mortem and handed over to the police for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Northeast District Deputy Police Chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake confirmed the discovery and said the case is still under investigation.
“Police will release further details once the investigation is complete,” he said briefly via WhatsApp.
