Four Arrested As Police Probe Unregistered Care Centre In Selayang Sexual Abuse Scandal

Date:

A sexual abuse case allegedly spanning nearly a decade at an unregistered children’s home in Selayang has been uncovered, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including the facility’s operator.

Police said the victims are boys aged between 9 and 17, who are currently receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital after medical examinations revealed injuries consistent with sexual abuse, including both recent and long-term trauma.

The home is believed to have been operating for around 10 years. Authorities confirmed that four suspects, including a 31-year-old operator, have been remanded until tomorrow to assist investigations. One of those detained is a 17-year-old resident.

The case came to light after two former residents, now 18 years old, came forward with allegations, according to Selangor-based NGO Pertubuhan Kebangkitan Tiga Tangan Selangor (PKTTS).

Its president, S Maran, said the victims had kept silent for years before eventually speaking out, revealing disturbing accounts of repeated abuse.

He added that a police report was lodged at the Gombak district police headquarters before his team visited the premises under the pretext of attending a birthday celebration, where further disclosures were made by the children.

Maran also claimed that evidence linked to the abuse was found on a suspect’s mobile phone, strengthening the case.

At least 10 police reports have since been filed by NGOs, former residents and parents, while medical checks reportedly confirmed multiple injuries believed to be caused by repeated abuse.

One single mother said she was shocked to discover that her two sons, aged 9 and 10, were among the victims, adding that she had trusted the home for years and visited regularly without suspicion.

Investigations also revealed serious management failures at the facility, which housed 36 children—23 boys and 13 girls—including lack of proper supervision and violations of basic care standards.

Authorities further noted that the premises was not registered under the Social Welfare Department (JKM), instead operating under a private company, raising concerns over regulatory enforcement.

Police and forensic teams have since raided the premises and launched a full investigation. Senior Assistant Director of the Sexual, Women and Children Investigation Division (D11), Siti Kamsiah Hassan, confirmed the arrests, saying investigations are ongoing.
