Four Arrested in George Town Drug Bust, RM2 Million Worth of Drugs Seized

Date:

Police have arrested three local men and a foreign woman believed to be involved in a drug trafficking syndicate, following two raids around George Town that led to the seizure of drugs worth an estimated RM2 million.

Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the operations were carried out by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) between 1pm yesterday and 2am today, based on intelligence gathering and surveillance.

The first raid resulted in the arrest of a local man and a foreign woman suspected of acting as drug runners. Subsequent interrogation led police to a vehicle parked nearby, where several bags containing large quantities of suspected drugs were discovered.

Among the items seized were multiple zipped and plastic bags containing suspected MDMA powder in various packaging, with a total weight exceeding 14 kilograms. These included packets found in bags labelled “Blackout,” “Cadbury,” and a box labelled “Tang,” with individual packets marked “Lychee.”

Police also seized 41 packets of suspected ketamine weighing 51.40 grams, a transparent packet containing 30 Ecstasy pills weighing 12.60 grams, and an aluminium foil strip containing 10 Erimin 5 pills weighing 3.30 grams.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two more local men believed to be accomplices, who were also acting as runners in the George Town area.

According to Datuk Azizee, intelligence indicates the syndicate has been actively distributing drugs since July last year, with the seized substances estimated to be sufficient for more than 50,000 users.

Urine screening showed that three of the suspects tested positive for drugs, while record checks revealed that three have previous criminal and drug-related offences.

All four suspects have been remanded for six days until January 8 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
