Four teachers’ quarters and a school canteen at Sekolah Kebangsaan Imbak were destroyed in a fire that broke out on Wednesday evening, leaving 13 people affected.
The blaze, which started at around 6.20pm, caused significant damage to the school compound. Despite the scale of the incident, no fatalities were reported, though several occupants were impacted by the loss of their homes and belongings.
Tongod District Civil Defence Force officer, Lieutenant Adrian Dauli, said authorities received an emergency call from members of the public reporting the fire. A team of four personnel from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force was dispatched to the scene, arriving at approximately 6.53pm to conduct monitoring and risk assessment.
He said the fire completely destroyed four teachers’ quarters, a school canteen and a vehicle. A total of 13 victims — comprising three adult men and nine adult women — were affected by the incident, underscoring the broader impact such disasters can have on school communities.
Personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police were also present at the scene to ensure safety and maintain order. The operation involved multiple agencies, including volunteer fire brigade teams and staff from Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd.
Authorities confirmed that the cause of the fire and the total losses incurred are still under investigation, as officials continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
