Frozen Duck, Pork And Coffee Worth Over RM900,000 Seized At West Port Klang

Date:

Attempts to bring in animal meat and agricultural produce without complying with import requirements were thwarted after the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) seized three consignments worth more than RM900,000 at West Port Klang on Wednesday.

The seizure involved frozen duck meat, frozen pork and coffee beans that were found to have breached import permit and certification conditions set by the authorities. Such enforcement actions, officials said, are crucial in safeguarding food safety and preventing the entry of animal-borne diseases into the country.

AKPS Port Klang commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said a team of officers conducted inspections on several commercial containers at the CFS4 Container Inspection Site, where physical checks uncovered three consignments that failed to comply with existing legal provisions.

He said that at about 11.45am, inspections revealed a consignment of frozen duck meat from Ireland that had been imported without a valid import permit from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS). The seized duck meat weighed 16,161.28 kilogrammes, with an estimated value of RM354,176.26.

In a separate inspection at around 11.30am, frozen pork from Belgium was also found to be in breach of MAQIS import permit requirements. The seizure involved 24,958.10 kilogrammes of frozen pork, estimated to be worth RM461,371.43.

Nik Ezanee added that officers also detected a shipment of coffee beans from Colombia that had been imported without the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) 3P certificate, as required under relevant regulations. The coffee bean seizure amounted to 3,500 kilogrammes with an estimated value of RM100,608.33.

“All the seized consignments have been detained to prevent the risk of animal disease transmission and to ensure the continued protection of food safety and public health in the country,” he said, adding that the case is being investigated under the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728).

Overall, the operation resulted in the seizure of 44,619.38 kilogrammes of goods with a total estimated value of RM916,156.02. Nik Ezanee stressed that AKPS Port Klang remains committed to curbing the entry of prohibited items and non-compliant goods, describing such efforts as vital to maintaining national safety, well-being and sovereignty.
