Gang 35 Busted: 17 Arrested In Major Police Operation

Date:

Police have dismantled a violent criminal gang linked to murders, robberies and drug trafficking in Kedah and Penang following the arrest of 17 suspects, including seven who were recently released from prison.

The suspects, aged between 24 and 42, were detained during Op Tiga, conducted by the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department in collaboration with Kedah police between November 27 and December 4.

Federal CID director Datuk M. Kumar said the group, known as Gang 35 and formerly called Gang Rusa Boy, operated mainly in Sungai Petani, Kulim and parts of Penang. The gang was led by a 36-year-old man known as G. R. Rames and had been active since 2020.

“All those arrested have criminal records involving murder, armed robbery, causing grievous hurt and drug trafficking,” Kumar said.

He added that seven of the suspects had been released from prison in January after serving five-year sentences for offences related to organised crime.

According to Kumar, Gang 35 was a highly structured organisation, with members assigned specific roles such as carrying out attacks, handling finances and managing drug distribution. The gang is believed to be linked to at least two murders since 2024, in which victims were hacked to death.

All 17 suspects are currently detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA). Investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, and police have been instructed to charge the suspects tomorrow.

They will be charged under Section 130V of the Penal Code for membership in an organised crime group, an offence punishable by up to 20 years’ imprisonment.

Police are also tracking down 15 other suspected gang members who remain at large.

“We believe they are still in the country, and we will ensure they are brought to justice,” Kumar said, adding that the arrests have effectively crippled the gang.
