Genting Highlands Road Charge Trial Run To Commence On April 2

Date:

Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd (LCSB), the official operator of the Jalan Genting Highlands route, has announced a trial run of its new road charge system starting April 2. This preliminary phase is designed to test the infrastructure and operational readiness before a full implementation is officially launched. The trial will specifically take place at two key entry points to the popular highland resort: the Genting Sempah entrance and the Gohtong Jaya entrance located at the Gohtong Jaya roundabout.

During this trial period, motorists will not be required to pay any fees for using the private road. However, for testing and data collection purposes, all road users must tap their Touch ‘n Go cards or valid debit and credit cards at the gantries. This process is essential for the operator to evaluate the system’s efficiency and ensure that the hardware can handle the high volume of traffic typically seen on the way to the peak.

Drivers heading to the highlands are reminded to strictly adhere to the established Rules and Regulations on Usage of the Genting Roads. LCSB has also noted that additional requirements may be introduced periodically as the system evolves. The primary goal of this exercise is to guarantee that the road charge mechanism operates smoothly and safely, ensuring that access to Resorts World Genting and its surrounding tourist attractions remains reliable for all visitors.

The move follows a confirmation from Genting Malaysia late last year regarding plans to introduce a private vehicle charge based on a “user pays” principle. The revenue generated from this charge is intended to support the ongoing maintenance of the steep terrain and provide for necessary emergency response services. Officials have clarified that this road charge is distinct from a conventional highway toll, as it focuses specifically on the sustainability of the private infrastructure serving the Genting Highlands community.

As the trial progresses, LCSB aims to address any technical issues and refine the user experience to minimise delays for tourists and residents alike. Detailed updates regarding the road charge system, including future pricing and official start dates, will be shared through the company’s official digital channels. Motorists are encouraged to visit the LCSB website at www.lingkarancekap.com for the latest information and guidelines before planning their trip to the resort.
