Girlfriend’s Body Found in Kimchi Fridge Nearly a Year Later—Still Preserved

Date:

A shocking murder case in South Korea has come to light after a man allegedly killed his girlfriend over a dispute about stock investments and hid her body in a kimchi refrigerator for nearly a year. Authorities only discovered the crime after the suspect confessed to a cohabiting partner. Remarkably, the victim’s body reportedly showed no signs of decomposition.

According to reports from Yonhap News, KBS, and Chosun Ilbo, the man, identified only by the pseudonym “Ahan,” in his 40s, lives in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, and relies on short-term stock trading for income. On October 20 last year, following an argument over stocks with his girlfriend, he allegedly killed her and purchased a kimchi refrigerator to conceal the body in her apartment.

To cover up the crime, Ahan reportedly used the victim’s phone to impersonate her in communications with her family and even paid her rent. However, his reliance on text messages rather than phone calls raised suspicions, prompting her family to report her missing. Recently, he asked his cohabiting partner to pretend to contact the victim’s family, ultimately revealing that he had committed murder, which led to the case’s exposure.

Police received a report on September 29 and discovered the victim’s body in the kimchi refrigerator at her apartment. Ahan was arrested on September 30 for murder and improper disposal of a corpse. Authorities plan to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
