GISBH CEO and Executives Face 20-Year Jail Threat Over Money Laundering Charges

Date:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH), Nasiruddin Mohd Ali, is set to be charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court on Tuesday under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (AMLA) 2001.

Lawyer Datuk Rosli Kamaruddin, representing 66-year-old Nasiruddin, said three other top executives of the company will also face charges in the same case. Further details regarding the case will only be known after the charges are formally read in court.

“Yes, four top executives of the company will be charged today and will be brought to court,” he said after a case management proceeding at the Kajang Prison Complex Court.

The case involves allegations of being members of a criminal syndicate, including Nasiruddin, his wife Azura Md Yusof, the son of Al-Arqam’s late founder Mohammad Adib At-Tamimi Asa’ari, and 19 other top company executives.

On 23 October 2024, they were charged at the Selayang Sessions Court, each with one count of being members of a criminal syndicate since 2020.

The eight female accused are Hamimah Yakub, 72; Asmat @ Asmanira Muhammad Ramly, 45; Mahani Kasim, 55; Siti Salmiah Ismail, 58; Siti Hajar Ismail, 52; Khalilatul-Zalifah Mohammad Jamil, 28; Nurul Jannah Idris, 29; and Nur Jannah Omar, 33.

The 11 male accused include Hasnan Abd Hamid, 54; Mohd Shukri Mohd Noor, 54; Mokhtar Tajuddin, 61; Shuhaimi Mohamed, 57; Muhammad Afdaluddin Latif, 35; Mohamad Sayuti Omar, 36; Mohd Fazil Md Jasin, 58; Mohd Dhirar Fakhrur Razi, 35; Muhammad Zahid Azhar @ Nadzri, 52; Abu Ubaidah Ahmad Shukri, 35; and Muhammad Fajrul Islam Khalid, 29.

They are charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of five to 20 years if convicted.

The accused had applied for bail pending trial, but the prosecution opposed the application.

Previously, on 13 January, Hamimah, who is also an accountant at GISBH, became the first accused to be granted bail.

On 23 December last year, the Selayang Sessions Court approved the transfer of the case involving Hamimah and 21 other accused to the Shah Alam High Court for trial.
