A 62-year-old Grab driver has been fined RM2,000 by the Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt in an incident involving a motorcyclist in Bandar Putra last week.
Yeoh Ah Chai entered his guilty plea after the charge was read to him through a court interpreter before Magistrate R. Salini. The court also ruled that he would face up to two months’ jail if he fails to pay the fine.
According to the charge sheet, Yeoh was accused of intentionally causing injury to a 37-year-old motorcyclist by punching him during an incident at Lebuh Putra Utama at about 5.45pm on April 3.
The case falls under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
Facts presented in court stated that the incident began after a collision between Yeoh’s Perodua Alza and the motorcycle ridden by the victim.
Following the impact, Yeoh allegedly exited his vehicle, kicked the motorcycle causing it to fall, and proceeded to punch the rider multiple times in the midsection, resulting in soft tissue injuries.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Weng Hong, while the accused was represented by counsel Lim Seay Sean.
