A deadly shooting unfolded Monday inside a high-rise building in Midtown Manhattan that houses the NFL headquarters and several financial firms, including Blackstone and KPMG. Authorities confirmed that at least four people were killed before the gunman was later found dead inside the building.
According to a law enforcement source, one of the victims was an off-duty NYPD officer who was reportedly working private security at the time. The other three victims were civilians. Several additional individuals were reported injured in the attack.
The New York Police Department posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that the shooter was dead and the scene had been secured. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed the shooter was neutralized and there was no ongoing threat.
Multiple news outlets reported that the attacker, dressed in a bulletproof vest and carrying an AR-style rifle, had briefly barricaded himself inside the building, possibly on the 32nd floor. The suspect has been tentatively identified as a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas. Preliminary checks showed no major criminal history, according to officials.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos. “I just saw a lot of commotion and cops and people screaming,” said Russ McGee, a 31-year-old who was working out at a nearby gym.
Authorities have not released information on the motive. The FBI confirmed agents from its New York field office were assisting local police.
The skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue remains under heavy security presence as investigations continue.
