Oklahoma City resident Alan Prudhome, a paraplegic, faced a devastating ordeal after his home was burglarized twice within a week, leaving him without essential medical equipment and valuables.
The first break-in occurred last month when Prudhome returned home to find his front door pried open and most of his belongings stolen. Just a week later, two burglars returned while he was sleeping, ransacking his room and attempting to steal a bag strapped around his waist. Among the items taken were cash, medication, a wheelchair, and specialized controllers Prudhome relies on daily.
Authorities later arrested Prudhome’s neighbor, Johnny Johnson, in connection with the second burglary. Johnson has been charged with first-degree burglary and remains in custody at the Oklahoma County Jail. The second suspect has not yet been identified.
During the second break-in, Prudhome confronted the intruders, asking, “Why are you doing this to me?” to which one allegedly replied, “It happened to me.” Prudhome recounted the fear and panic he felt afterward, admitting he no longer feels safe at home alone.
Struggling financially on disability, Prudhome has faced the added burden of replacing stolen items. He launched a GoFundMe campaign describing the incident as one of the hardest times of his life. The fundraiser has raised nearly $7,000 of its $9,000 goal.
Community support has poured in, with Wheelchairs for Veterans donating a new manual wheelchair and assisting in replacing other essential medical equipment. Prudhome expressed gratitude, saying, “It is unbelievable how much the community has come together to help me. I am so grateful for everyone’s support and generosity.”
Police have urged residents in the area to secure their homes with proper locks, security systems, and motion-sensor lighting to prevent similar incidents.
