Hotel Restaurant Floor Collapses, Injuring Tourists And Triggering Mass Evacuation

Date:

Part of a hotel dining area suddenly collapsed, leaving several tourists injured and more than 150 people evacuated in a late-night incident on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 9.30pm at Hotel Rey Don Jaime in Santa Ponça, a popular tourist destination in Spain, while guests were dining at the hotel restaurant.

Witnesses said the floor in the dining area gave way without warning, causing diners to fall and triggering panic among hotel guests.

Images shared by local media showed severe structural damage, with the restaurant floor caved in and debris scattered across the affected area.

Initial reports from authorities suggested that ageing infrastructure and a possible lack of structural reinforcement could have contributed to the collapse.

Firefighters from the Calvià station, along with paramedics, local police and security personnel, were quickly deployed to the scene to assist victims and secure the area.

Several individuals sustained minor injuries and received on-site medical treatment, while around 150 guests were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the structural failure.
