A 42-year-old employee at a hotpot restaurant in Sanchong, New Taipei, was sentenced to 2 months in prison or a fine of MYR 6,000 by the New Taipei District Court after admitting to secretly filming a female customer in the restroom earlier this year. His iPhone 12 mini used in the incident was confiscated.
According to court records, the incident occurred around 11:00 PM on January 7, when the man followed the female customer into the restroom during her visit, then extended his phone from above the cubicle to secretly record her private areas. The victim caught him in the act and immediately reported the matter to the police.
The court ruled that the man’s actions, motivated by personal sexual desire, were a clear violation of the victim’s privacy. While he admitted his wrongdoing and expressed willingness to settle, the victim refused any mediation or forgiveness. Consequently, he was convicted under the law prohibiting unauthorized recording of sexual images and sentenced to 2 months imprisonment or a fine of MYR 6,000, with the seized iPhone 12 mini officially confiscated. The verdict is subject to appeal.
