A 31-year-old housewife, Norhasikin Abu Bakar, was charged in the magistrate’s court today with stealing a total of RM130,000 from her mother four months ago.
Norhasikin faced two charges under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both. She pleaded guilty to both counts and appealed for leniency, citing a lack of income while her husband also had no fixed earnings.
The first charge involved allegedly stealing RM100,000 from her 67-year-old mother’s Tabung Haji THiJARI account at Felda Gugusan Adela on August 21, while the second involved RM30,000 withdrawn using her mother’s Bank Islam ATM card at the Bandar Penawar branch on the same day.
Prosecuting officer Inspector Nor Ayu Hidayah Mohd Safri requested an appropriate sentence, noting that the loss was suffered by the accused’s own mother and that the stolen money had yet to be recovered.
Magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin imposed fines of RM20,000 for the first charge and RM15,000 for the second, with a two-year jail term for each charge if the fines are not paid.
Norhasikin was arrested at the Kota Tinggi police headquarters on October 26 at 4.30pm.
