The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are set to record statements from an additional 14 individuals to assist in investigations regarding an alleged plot to sabotage national stability. Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed on Thursday that a list of names has been finalised, following an ongoing probe into claims of a local influential figure collaborating with international media agencies to undermine the government.
Speaking at a press conference in Bukit Aman, the IGP stated that 14 individuals have already provided their statements to the authorities. He noted that investigators are currently reviewing the gathered information while conducting further inquiries. Once the additional 14 statements are recorded and the investigation is finalised, the findings will be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action.
When questioned by reporters if Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, the widow of the late Tun Daim Zainuddin, was among those being summoned, the IGP declined to disclose specific identities. He maintained that the investigation is strictly ongoing and he would not comment on individual names at this stage. The probe follows a police report lodged against two lawyers, Nizamuddin Hamid and Amir Zharif Abdullah, regarding an alleged attempt to topple the administration.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 124B of the Penal Code, which deals with activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy. Highlights of the case so far include:
- Lawyer Nizamuddin Hamid has denied the allegations, describing them as a complete fabrication.
- Toh Puan Na’imah issued a statement dismissing the claims as “absurd,” asserting that seeking professional public relations (PR) advice is not a legal offence.
- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously revealed that attempts to destabilise the government involved local figures utilizing international media and foreign institutions, allegedly backed by substantial funding.
- Police intelligence suggests the movement is based overseas and aims to challenge the legitimacy of the current administration.
The Inspector-General reiterated that the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit (USJT) is handling the matter with full transparency. He emphasised that the police take any threat to national security seriously and will continue to monitor activities that leverage international influence to create domestic unrest. Further updates are expected as more witnesses are called to Bukit Aman to facilitate the completion of the investigation papers.
