Ipoh Cops Launch Internal Investigation Into Alleged Police Bribery Incident

Date:

Police have initiated an internal investigation following a viral video allegedly showing an officer taking money from a man, in an incident that has sparked public concern over enforcement integrity.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah, confirmed that authorities are aware of the 47-second clip, which was uploaded via the Facebook account ‘Update & Info’. The footage has since circulated widely online, prompting scrutiny from the public.

Preliminary findings indicate that the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) featured in the video bears the call sign “PK 56”, which is registered under the Perak police contingent and falls within the jurisdiction of the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD). However, key details including the exact location of the incident and the identity of the officer involved have yet to be verified.

Muhammad Najib stressed that a formal internal investigation has been opened to identify the personnel linked to the case. He reiterated that the police force takes such allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct that could undermine public trust.

He also urged the public to refrain from speculation while investigations are ongoing, noting that unverified claims could disrupt the process and lead to misinformation.

“The investigation will be conducted in a transparent, thorough, and fair manner. Firm action will be taken if any breach of laws or regulations is established,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Members of the public with relevant information are encouraged to come forward and assist by contacting the Ipoh District Police Headquarters at 05-2451500 or by visiting the nearest police station.
