Jealous Uncle Steals Gold Bars Worth Over RM320k After Nephew Shows Off Wealth Online

Date:

A family betrayal has come to light after police uncovered that a man allegedly tipped off thieves to steal gold bars worth over RM320,000 from his own nephew, reportedly out of jealousy over the latter’s social media posts flaunting wealth.

The burglary took place on April 10, 2026, at a residence in Soi Nok Khao Saphan Pla, Ranong Province, where suspects made off with 35 baht weight of gold bars, along with several gold-encased and loose amulets.

Investigations led to the arrest of the first suspect on April 19, identified as a close relative of the victim. Authorities said the man acted as a lookout and provided key information about the home, including when it would be unoccupied, enabling the theft to be carried out smoothly.

During questioning, the suspect admitted his involvement, claiming he was driven by frustration over his nephew’s repeated displays of wealth online. He insisted he did not directly plan the robbery but had shared information with others who later executed the crime.

Police revealed that a total of four individuals were involved in the break-in, which was carried out at night using a vehicle. All suspects are believed to be known to the victim and had even attended a family gathering prior to the incident, where they allegedly gathered details about the valuables.

Authorities have charged the suspects with joint theft involving forced entry at night, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether additional accomplices were involved, including the use of fake licence plates or vehicle switches during the crime.
