A family in Johor narrowly avoided tragedy after leaving their rented home earlier than planned to buy school supplies, moments before a car crashed into their house yesterday.
The incident occurred at a rented house along Jalan Permas 1, Taman Permas Jaya, at around 4pm. The vehicle smashed into the front of the house, bringing down the awning and damaging two neighbouring cars.
Tenant Mohamad Alif Najzmee Mohamed Ramdzan Shah, 25, said his family had left the house at about 3.30pm. Around 30 minutes later, he received a call from a neighbour informing him of the crash.
“When we returned, there were many people at the scene. I can’t imagine what would have happened if we were home, as my children usually play in front of the house,” he said.
Although they are tenants, Mohamad Alif said the incident has left his family and neighbours shaken, with concerns that a similar accident could happen again due to the busy road in front of the house.
Johor Baru Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the crash involved an e-hailing driver who lost control of his vehicle after swerving to avoid a dog that suddenly crossed the road.
The 26-year-old driver veered into the opposite lane, hitting a motorcycle, three parked cars and the house. The driver was unharmed, while the motorcyclist sustained minor injuries and was taken to Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act for careless driving.
