Kelantan police have successfully dismantled a group suspected of car window smashing and theft following the arrest of five individuals in multiple raids, police confirmed.
Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the crackdown stemmed from a reported incident on Jan 30 at 7:30 am along a roadside near Kampung Wakaf Berangan Cemetery in Pasir Puteh, where losses were estimated at RM1,100.
In response, the Kelantan Contingent Criminal Investigation Department conducted raids on Jan 31 at 12:30 am at three separate locations: the inspection lane of the Rantau Panjang ICQS Complex, a residence in Kampung Seligi, and another house in Kampung Gaal, Pasir Puteh.
“The police arrested three men, a local woman, and a Thai woman, aged between 32 and 55,” he said in a statement.
Authorities also seized numerous items believed to be proceeds of criminal activity, including 18 mobile phones, 11 wallets, 41 handbags and backpacks of various brands, seven pieces of jewellery, two watches, and two cars—a Proton Waja and a Proton Wira.
All suspects have been remanded for four days, from Jan 31, to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Datuk Mohd Yusoff added that the arrests have resolved eight cases of car window smashing in Kelantan and Terengganu, with total estimated losses of RM32,200. The cases are being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
