An immigration officer has been confirmed to have engaged in “flying passport” activity at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on June 2 last year, the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC) announced today.
The EAIC said the officer entered a passenger’s details, including passport information, into the Malaysian Immigration Integrated Management System (MyIMMs) without the passenger being physically present at the counter.
“The officer’s actions violated the guidelines of the Malaysian Immigration Department’s Quality Management System and contravened guideline PK(0)IM.H.03-02 issued by the Director-General of Immigration, constituting misconduct under paragraph 24(1)(f) of Act 700,” the statement read.
Following the findings, the EAIC referred the officer to the Immigration Department’s Disciplinary Authority, recommending disciplinary action under paragraph 4(2)(f) for dishonest and untrustworthy conduct.
Additionally, the commission recommended action under paragraph 4(2)(g) for irresponsible behaviour under the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns over protocol compliance and integrity among immigration personnel at the nation’s main international airport.
