Knife-Wielding Teen Arrested in Bukit Panjang as Video of Police Takedown Goes Viral

Date:

Singapore police arrested an 18-year-old male on Feb 7 after he was allegedly seen brandishing a knife in a public area in Bukit Panjang.

The incident drew attention after a video circulated on social media platform SGfollowsall, showing several police officers detaining an individual near a futsal court. The clip was tagged at Fajar Basketball Court, with the caption claiming that a teenager had been threatening to stab people.

In the footage, the suspect is seen lying on the ground as at least four police officers restrain him. A crowd had gathered at a distance on the opposite side of the court, with several onlookers recording the incident on their phones.

Voices could be heard in the background questioning whether the suspect was alone, while another onlooker appeared to ask if the officers were carrying firearms. Others shouted warnings in Chinese, telling the crowd not to approach or interfere with police operations.

Despite the seriousness of the situation, some members of the crowd appeared visibly shocked yet casual, expressing disbelief as the arrest unfolded.

Responding to media queries, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said it received a call for assistance at Block 518 Jelapang Road, located across a road and canal from where the video was recorded.

Police confirmed that an 18-year-old man was arrested for carrying an offensive weapon in a public place. A knife was seized as evidence, and no injuries were reported.

Investigations are ongoing.
