Kuching Teen Sentenced to Henry Gurney School After Pleading Guilty to Raping 14-Year-Old

Date:

A 15-year-old boy has been ordered by the Magistrates’ Court to serve three years at the Henry Gurney School for the rape of a 14-year-old girl. Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali delivered the sentence following a review of the teenager’s social report provided by the Welfare Department. The youth had previously entered a guilty plea for the offense, which was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code.

The incident took place between late April and early May last year at a recreational park on Jalan Padungan. The case was uncovered months later, on December 8, 2025, when the victim’s father took her to a private hospital after she complained of persistent abdominal pain.

She was subsequently transferred to the Sarawak General Hospital for specialized care, and a police report was filed the same day. The accused was arrested on December 9, 2025.

Investigations revealed that both the victim and the accused admitted to the sexual encounter at the park. The victim confirmed that the accused was her first and only sexual partner.

Although Section 376(1) allows for up to 20 years of imprisonment and whipping, the court opted for the rehabilitative sentence at the Henry Gurney School given the offender’s age.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly, while the boy remained unrepresented throughout the proceedings.
