Labuan Police Detain Local Manager, Nine Foreigners In Premises Raid

Date:

Police have arrested a local woman and nine foreign nationals following a raid on a business premises here, uncovering suspected immigration offences involving undocumented workers.

Labuan district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hamizi Halim said the operation was carried out by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Labuan district police headquarters.

He said the local woman was employed as the manager of the premises, while seven foreign men and two foreign women were working as servers and cooks. Initial investigations revealed that the foreign workers, aged between 18 and 53, did not possess valid work permits and were believed to have been employed at the premises since July 2025.

“All individuals were detained for further investigation, and several documents were seized to assist the case,” he said in a statement today.

Hamizi said the case is being investigated under Section 55B of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. A remand application for all those arrested was filed at the Labuan Magistrate’s Court on Feb 6 and was granted until Feb 9.

He noted that enforcement operations such as these are crucial to curb the employment of undocumented workers, which can pose risks to public safety, labour standards and fair business practices. Authorities remain committed to ensuring compliance with immigration laws, particularly within the service and food sectors.

Investigations are ongoing, and the public is urged to cooperate by providing information related to criminal or illegal employment activities to the police, Hamizi said.
