A 24-year-old man has tested positive for drugs following a seven-vehicle collision along Jalan Wong Soon Kai in Sibu, Sarawak on Thursday night.
Acting Sibu Police Chief Supt Boniface Bajai said the suspect, driving a Toyota Vios, was detained after the crash, which occurred at approximately 9.55pm on March 12.
Preliminary investigations indicate the vehicle was approaching a traffic light junction when it allegedly failed to stop at the signal, colliding with six vehicles ahead.
“Initial urine screening conducted on the driver found that he tested positive for amphetamine-type drugs,” Supt Boniface stated on Friday.
The accident involved seven vehicles in total, including the suspect’s car. Although all vehicles sustained significant damage, no serious injuries were reported.
“The driver has been detained to assist in investigations,” he added.
The case is being probed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving on a public road. If convicted, the offender could face up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine between RM5,000 and RM15,000, and a minimum two-year driving licence disqualification.
