Lorry Driver Killed After Being Hit While Crossing Highway Following Crash

Date:

A tragic incident occurred at KM178.8 of the PLUS Highway southbound when a lorry driver was killed after being struck by another lorry while attempting to cross the road following an earlier accident.

In the incident at about 1pm yesterday, the victim is believed to have lost control of the treler he was driving, causing it to veer to the left side of the highway.

The heavy vehicle then hit a road divider, skidded down a slope and crashed into a tree before the driver reportedly got out and tried to cross the road.

Jasin District Police Chief, Superintendent Lee Robert, said initial investigations showed that the 58-year-old man was transporting used imported vehicles from Port Klang, Selangor, heading towards Muar, Johor.

“Upon arriving at the location, the treler is believed to have lost control and skidded to the left side of the road,” he said.

He added that while attempting to cross the highway, the driver was hit by another lorry driven by a 64-year-old man.

The victim was thrown onto the road and suffered head and body injuries before being rushed to Tangkak Hospital for treatment.

However, at about 9.20pm, hospital authorities confirmed that the victim had succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
