Lorry Driver Trapped After Horror Crash With Tar Lorry On PLUS Highway

Date:

An egg lorry driver endured severe pain after becoming trapped inside his vehicle following a collision involving two lorries at Kilometre 202 of the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound early Friday morning.

The incident, which happened at around 3am, is believed to have occurred when a five-tonne Isuzu bonded lorry carrying eggs rammed into the rear of a 14-tonne Nissan UD lorry transporting tar. The impact left the front section of the egg lorry badly damaged.

A spokesperson from Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat Malaysia Melaka, Deputy Fire Superintendent II Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid, said the department received an emergency call at 3.09am before a team from the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene.

According to him, a total of 10 firefighters together with three emergency vehicles, including the FRT, EMRS and RIM units, were deployed to the location situated about 12 kilometres from the station. The dark road conditions during the early hours were believed to have added challenges to the rescue operation.

“Upon arrival, the operation team found that the Isuzu five-tonne lorry carrying eggs had crashed into the rear of the Nissan UD 14-tonne lorry carrying tar,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He added that the 23-year-old driver of the egg lorry was trapped in the driver’s seat, while a 31-year-old male passenger sustained injuries. Another man, aged 53, who was also involved in the incident, escaped unharmed.

Firefighters managed to extricate the trapped victim using specialised rescue equipment before emergency medical personnel from the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) provided initial treatment at the scene.

The injured victims were later transported to hospital via EMRS and St John ambulances for further treatment. The accident also caused traffic congestion along the highway for a short period.
