Malaysia Airlines & Firefly Offer Huge Chinese New Year Fare Subsidies

Date:

Malaysia Airlines and Firefly are offering one-way fare subsidies from Kuala Lumpur to selected destinations in Sabah and Sarawak in conjunction with the Chinese New Year peak travel period, from 13 to 16 February.

This initiative supports the government’s efforts to reduce travel costs and ensure wider access for the public.

According to Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), Malaysia Airlines is providing subsidies of up to RM569 one-way, including all costs, for destinations such as Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan, Labuan, Kuching, Miri, Sibu, and Bintulu. Firefly offers subsidies of up to RM548 one-way for selected destinations including Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kuching, and Sibu.

“These subsidised fares complement the expanded festive flight schedule, helping to ease travel costs while ensuring wider access and reliable connectivity during the Chinese New Year peak period,” MAG said.

For international travel, the Global New Year campaign remains open until 20 January for trips until 30 November 2026. Promotional round-trip fares start from RM159, with Enrich members receiving an additional 5% discount.

MAG said more than 2,400 flights will operate during the Chinese New Year travel period, including up to 198 additional flights by Malaysia Airlines and Firefly to accommodate the increased demand. The festive flight schedule runs from 11 to 23 February 2026, backed by strengthened capacity planning and reliable domestic connections.

During this period, Malaysia Airlines will operate up to 1,498 flights, with 130 extra flights to meet peak demand, while Firefly will operate 962 flights, including 68 additional services. The expanded operations focus on key routes connecting Peninsular Malaysia to East Malaysia, including Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, and Sandakan.

Overall, Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will operate an extended domestic network during the festive season, reinforcing MAG’s role as a trusted connector for Malaysians during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
