Malaysia recorded 4,079 cases of violence and 3,042 cases of sexual harassment involving children and their caregivers between 2021 and November this year, the Dewan Negara was told today.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said 1,057 violence cases were reported so far this year, compared with 1,201 cases in 2024, 612 in 2023, 502 in 2022, and 707 in 2021.
For sexual harassment cases where the victims were children and the perpetrators were caregivers — including parents, teachers, babysitters, adoptive fathers and foster families — Saifuddin said the ministry recorded 418 cases in 2021, 511 in 2022, 634 in 2023, 667 in 2024, and 812 cases as of November 2025.
He was responding to Senator Datuk Nelson W. Angang, who requested updated statistics and details on the Home Ministry’s preventive and support measures.
Saifuddin said the ministry works closely with Interpol and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to support investigations.
“Once a victim is identified, police collaborate with the Health Ministry and the Social Welfare Department to provide counselling, medical care and psychological support. They are then referred to shelters under the Child Act 2001,” he said.
He added that police liaison officers have also been placed in schools to educate students on the dangers of such crimes, with support from counselling agencies.
Separately, responding to Senator Mohd Hasbie Muda, Saifuddin said 20,032 cases involving undocumented children have been resolved as of yesterday.
