Malaysian entertainer Namewee, who has been linked to the sudden death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-Hsin, appeared in court today over a drug-related case. He arrived at the Kuala Lumpur court at 8:58 a.m., accompanied by his lawyer, Cheng Qingfeng (phonetic), and while he did not speak, he nodded at the media present.
The case stems from the death of Hsieh Yu-Hsin, who was found unresponsive in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur on October 22 at around 1:40 p.m. According to Namewee’s statement, he discovered Hsieh unconscious in the bathtub and attempted CPR before calling for emergency assistance. He said they had been at the hotel to discuss a video project.
Police reported finding approximately nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in the room. Preliminary urine tests on Namewee returned positive for four types of drugs.
On October 24, Namewee was charged under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (possession of drugs) and Section 15(1)(a) (drug consumption). He was granted bail of RM4,000, with the next court date set for December 18.
Subsequently, on December 22 last year, Namewee faced another drug charge but was acquitted after a urine test returned negative.
