Malaysian University Student Issues Public Apology Over Social Media Post Insulting Islam

Date:

A university student in Malaysia has issued a public apology after posting content on social media that insulted Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.

The student, who is currently in police custody, acknowledged that his actions were a serious mistake and showed a lack of respect for the sanctity of Islam.

“I sincerely apologise for the image I uploaded earlier involving the Quran. My actions were wrong, disrespectful, and completely unacceptable. There is no excuse for what I did,” he said in a post uploaded on Tuesday.

He admitted that the act was carried out in anger and driven by feelings of resentment. At the time, he said he was not in a rational or calm state of mind and allowed his emotions to take control, resulting in a regrettable action.

“I understand that the Quran is a sacred book highly revered by Muslims. It is not merely a book but a divine revelation and a guide for life that deserves utmost respect. My actions did not reflect maturity or respect in any way,” he added.

The student took full responsibility for his actions, stressing that no one else was to blame. “Regardless of my emotions at the time, I should have controlled myself and acted more wisely,” he said.

He also confirmed that he had deleted the post and assured the public that he would not repeat the behaviour.
