Malaysians have praised officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for their patience and professionalism after successfully preventing a woman from jumping into a river following an hours-long standoff in Kuala Lumpur.
According to a Facebook post by Friends of PDRM, police received a call on Dec 28 about a young woman who appeared distressed near the Gombak River along Jalan Sultan Ismail.
Several officers were deployed to the scene and spent hours attempting to calm her. However, the woman reportedly refused to cooperate or speak, raising concerns that she might jump into the river at any moment.
After prolonged efforts, the situation was finally brought under control with the assistance of a female police officer, who managed to calm the woman and ensure her safety.
Police later found a psychiatric treatment record card in the woman’s handbag, indicating that her last medical consultation was in September.
The incident has drawn widespread praise online, with many commending the officers for their empathy, persistence and dedication in handling a sensitive situation without resorting to force.
