Thai police arrested a 44-year-old man late on Jan. 23 after he confessed to killing his girlfriend in a resort room in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.
The suspect, identified as Wu Ya-li, allegedly murdered his 49-year-old girlfriend, Nopawan, whom he had been dating for about five months. Police said the killing was particularly brutal, with the suspect reportedly cutting out the victim’s tongue before strangling her to death.
According to a report by Channel 7, the suspect contacted a friend at around 9pm on Jan. 23, admitting that he had killed someone and wanted to surrender. The friend immediately alerted the police.
Officers later arrested the suspect at his residence and proceeded to the crime scene — a resort in the Pa Phang sub-district — as directed by the suspect.
Inside the room, police found the woman’s body lying on the bed, with clear strangulation marks on her neck and severe injuries around her mouth. Investigators also recovered what is believed to be the victim’s severed tongue at the scene. A forensic examination confirmed that the woman had died.
Resort staff told police that the couple arrived together at the resort at 6.52pm that evening, with the suspect booking a one-night stay using electronic payment. About two hours later, at around 8pm, staff noticed the suspect driving away alone, assuming the couple had gone out briefly — unaware that the woman had already been killed.
Police are continuing investigations into the case.
