A shocking daylight killing has stunned a community in central India after a man allegedly murdered a 16-year-old boy before reportedly engaging in acts of cannibalism.
The incident took place on Thursday in a village near Damoh, located in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect, Gudda Patel, has been arrested following the brutal killing of a teenager identified as Bharat Vishwakarma.
According to preliminary investigations, the victim was on his way to celebrate a local festival when he was attacked.
A spokesperson for authorities said the suspect first assaulted the teenager with an iron rod, causing him to collapse.
“He initially struck the victim with an iron rod until he fell to the ground. The suspect then repeatedly hit the teenager with a hammer, resulting in the victim’s death at the scene,” the spokesperson said.
Disturbing Incident Witnessed By Residents
Residents in the area reportedly recorded disturbing footage showing the suspect allegedly drinking the victim’s blood and consuming parts of the body after the attack.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by local villagers, who surrounded him until police officers arrived.
Authorities later took Patel into custody.
Suspect Has Prior Murder Record
Police also revealed that the suspect has a previous criminal record and had previously served a prison sentence for the murder of his wife.
Investigators are now considering conducting a medical evaluation to determine whether Patel may have been suffering from a mental health disorder at the time of the killing.
The gruesome incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and sparked renewed concerns about violent crime in the region.
