A 54-year-old man has been arrested in Osaka, Japan, after allegedly attacking his former girlfriend with boiling water and a frying pan following a failed attempt at reconciliation. The suspect, identified as Koichi Sasaki, reportedly turned himself in to a nearby police kiosk shortly after the violent outburst. The incident occurred at approximately 7.30 pm on 21 March 2026, at the victim’s residence located in the Suminoe Ward of the city.
According to police reports, the confrontation began when the couple met to discuss the possibility of restarting their romantic relationship. When the discussion proved unsuccessful, Sasaki allegedly became enraged and assaulted the 49-year-old woman. He is accused of pouring boiling water from a kettle onto her, strangling her, and repeatedly striking her with a frying pan. The victim sustained serious head injuries and significant burns to her neck during the assault.
The suspect reportedly confessed to the authorities upon surrendering, stating that he had severely beaten his former partner. Police confirmed that the victim was immediately provided with medical attention for her injuries. Investigations into the case are currently focused on a charge of attempted murder, given the lethal nature of the weapons used and the severity of the physical trauma inflicted during the dispute.
Local authorities disclosed that this was not the first time they had been alerted to the couple’s volatile dynamic. Prior to this life-threatening escalation, the police had received multiple complaints from both individuals regarding ongoing domestic issues and relationship conflicts.
