Man Arrested For Running Illegal Karaoke Business In Jerteh, Charging RM1 Per Song

Date:

A man has been arrested after allegedly operating an unlicensed karaoke business following a police raid in Jerteh on Friday.

The raid, carried out at about 11pm, was conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Besut District Police Headquarters.

Besut district police chief Superintendent Mohd Rozaime Ab Rahim said the 35-year-old local suspect was detained after failing to produce a valid entertainment business licence.

Preliminary investigations found that the premises had been operating since March 2025, charging customers RM1 per song.

Police also seized various entertainment equipment from the location for further investigation.

Mohd Rozaime said the suspect has since been released on police bail to facilitate investigations and pending confirmation of licensing status from the Besut District Council (MDB).

The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Terengganu Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 2002.

If convicted, the individual faces a fine of up to RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to five years.

Police stressed that firm action will be taken against any party operating businesses without a valid licence to ensure public safety, order, and compliance with the law.

It is understood that the karaoke premises was located inside an orchard area, about 150 metres from a mosque.
