Police have arrested a 57-year-old man believed to have attacked his wife and daughter with a machete, leaving both seriously injured at their home in Permai Jaya early this morning.
Sibu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zulkipli Suhaili, said the suspect was detained by a special task force in Kanowit at about 4.15 p.m.
“The suspect will be remanded at the Sibu Magistrate’s Court on October 30 to assist in investigations. Police are still working to determine the motive of the incident, which is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon,” he said in a statement tonight.
Earlier, Zulkipli said police received a report of the violent altercation involving serious injuries to a mother and daughter at around 7 a.m.
“The emergency call was made through MERS 999 by one of the victims, who reported that she and her mother had been slashed with a machete by her own father,” he explained.
Following the report, a special task force was immediately mobilized, leading to the suspect’s swift arrest in Kanowit.
As a result of the attack, the suspect’s wife remains in critical condition and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sibu Hospital, while their 20-year-old daughter suffered severe head injuries but is reported to be in stable condition.
