A 33-year-old delivery rider in Thailand has been arrested for snatching a tourist’s purse, claiming he committed the theft because his job earnings were insufficient to support his two girlfriends.
Police apprehended Thanit on 3 March outside a convenience store in Bangkok, linking him to a robbery that occurred on 13 December 2025.
The victim, a 21-year-old British tourist, was walking near Grande Centre Point Hotel on Surawong Road around 12:50 am when a man on a motorcycle suddenly snatched her purse. The bag contained an iPhone 17, two Pandora bracelets, and roughly RM18 (฿3,000) in cash. She recalled seeing the man pass by moments earlier before returning with an accomplice to commit the theft.
Police launched an investigation, identified Thanit, and obtained an arrest warrant.
Upon questioning, he admitted to the crime, citing his low wages as a delivery rider and his need to financially maintain two girlfriends as the reason for resorting to theft.
