Man Busted Smuggling 1,378 Phone Camera Lenses In Baggy Jeans

Date:

Customs officers at the Luohu Port border checkpoint recently intercepted a man attempting to smuggle 1,378 used mobile phone camera lenses by strapping them to his legs beneath oversized jeans.

According to Chinese customs authorities, officers became suspicious after noticing the male traveller entering the customs inspection area without making any declaration.

Officials observed that the man was wearing unusually loose denim jeans, but his legs appeared abnormally bulky and his walking posture seemed stiff and unnatural, prompting officers to stop him for further inspection.

During the search, customs officers discovered 679 used mobile phone camera modules tightly wrapped around his right calf using transparent adhesive tape.

A further 699 camera modules were found similarly taped around his left calf.

In total, authorities seized 1,378 used mobile phone camera lenses hidden beneath the traveller’s clothing.

The unusual smuggling attempt quickly attracted attention online, with many social media users reacting to the bizarre method used to conceal the electronic components.

The case comes shortly after another unusual interception at Luohu customs, where officers reportedly discovered more than 200 live birds hidden inside a traveller’s luggage, including several endangered species.
