A 42-year-old man has been charged with beheading his own mother with a machete in a horrifying incident that occurred on Sunday.
The gruesome crime in Thailand’s northeastern Isan region came to light after the suspect was seen carrying the severed head of the victim to a nearby paddy field before walking around the village with his clothes soaked in blood.
The village head and his assistant, who later confirmed the incident at a house in Senangkhanikhom District, immediately contacted the police after discovering the victim’s body.
Authorities arrived at the scene and identified the victim as 71-year-old Sroi Inthanon, who was found dead and decapitated inside the family home.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, identified as Mongkol Inthanon, allegedly used a machete to behead his mother before leaving the house with her severed head.
The suspect was arrested at around 8.30am in Ban Non Sung village after local residents reported seeing him sitting by the roadside with fresh blood still visible on his face and body.
A forensic team was deployed to the scene to conduct an intensive investigation and collect evidence from inside the house.
Police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing, with all collected evidence undergoing analysis, including DNA testing, to complete the murder case file.
The suspect, who reportedly has a history of drug abuse, remains in police custody while authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the attack.
