A man has claimed he was “overcharged” by a nasi kandar restaurant in Seremban 2, alleging that he was billed RM120 for a meal that should have cost far less.
In a 5-minute and 38-second video that has since gone viral, the man said he and his staff were seated at two separate tables and were initially charged RM120 for food and drinks. Although he paid the amount, he later requested that the restaurant staff recalculate the bill.
He alleged that employees were reluctant to do so, resulting in him waiting nearly an hour before the total was reviewed again.
According to the man, the recalculated amount came to approximately RM70, prompting him to demand a refund of the difference.
He also claimed that the restaurant did not display price tags, questioning the actual pricing of the food and beverages served.
“Just eating roti canai and being charged RM120? Your shop has no price display. Please lodge a police report. Return my money, why overcharge me?” he said in the video.
The situation appeared to grow tense towards the end of the clip, with the man raising his voice while police officers were seen at the premises.
KPDN Launches Investigation
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), Muhammad Zahir Mazlan, confirmed that the authorities have investigated the incident.
He said checks found that the restaurant displayed price lists for all food items in locations clearly visible to customers, in compliance with legal requirements.
“The premises also issued sales receipts for every transaction as proof of purchase and official sales records. Inspection of the payment counter system, including sales records and price displays, found that the prices charged were consistent with those shown on the menu,” he said.
However, a Goods Information Verification Notice (NPMB) was issued to the restaurant concerning roti canai and roti telur. The premises has been given four working days to provide a complete response for further review.
