A man has been detained by police after a video showing a dangerous drifting stunt along the road to Genting Highlands went viral on social media.
Bentong District Police Chief, Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, said authorities detected a 14-second video clip circulating on TikTok on March 2 that captured the reckless act.
The footage showed a BMW 325i being driven dangerously while performing drift manoeuvres from left to right at a bend on the road heading towards the popular hill resort.
Preliminary investigations found that the driver had carried out reckless turning at the corner, an action that could endanger other road users travelling along the route.
Following the viral video, police launched efforts to trace the individual involved. At about 11am yesterday, a 29-year-old local man presented himself at the Traffic Office of the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD Bentong).
He arrived together with the vehicle believed to have been used during the incident. Police subsequently detained the suspect and seized the car for further investigation.
Authorities also conducted an initial urine screening test on the man, which returned a negative result. The case is currently being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
