Disturbing CCTV footage showing a man trapped in an escalator while commuters walked past without offering assistance has sparked outrage online and drawn criticism from the victim’s family.
According to reports by NBC10 Boston, the victim, identified as Steven McCluskey, 40, became trapped while descending an escalator at a train station in Massachusetts, United States.
The incident reportedly occurred after McCluskey lost his balance when part of his clothing became caught in the moving escalator.
Footage from the station’s surveillance cameras showed the man desperately struggling to free himself before eventually collapsing motionless on the escalator.
What shocked many viewers was the reaction of members of the public at the scene, as numerous commuters were seen walking past without stopping to help or check on his condition.
“After 18 minutes, a concerned individual finally contacted emergency services. By the time paramedics arrived, the victim reportedly had no pulse,” the report stated.
Emergency responders managed to revive McCluskey at the scene before rushing him to hospital in critical condition. However, he later fell into a coma and died 10 days after the incident.
The tragedy has since triggered widespread criticism, particularly from the victim’s family, who questioned why no immediate assistance was provided despite the crowded public setting.
Authorities are currently conducting investigations into the incident, including the circumstances surrounding the escalator malfunction and the emergency response timeline.
