A Myanmar man was found dead in a drain after being electrocuted, believed to have occurred while attempting to steal Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) power cables in Durian Tunggal, Melaka.
The incident happened at 2:14 p.m. yesterday near a TNB substation on Jalan Padang Keladi, close to the Melaka International Motorsports Circuit (MIMC).
Acting Alor Gajah District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Azrul Mohamed, said police received a call reporting an unconscious man lying in a drain. A team was dispatched to the scene and discovered the victim, identified as a 29-year-old UNHCR cardholder.
“Initial investigations suggest the man was attempting to steal electric cables, as the substation gate was found open and several cables had been cut. No signs of foul play were detected on the body,” Azrul explained.
The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical assistant. His body was later taken to the Alor Gajah Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination.
Firefighters from the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Station assisted in retrieving the body from the drain.
Police have classified the case as sudden death but are continuing to investigate possible involvement of other parties.
