Man Faces Attempted Murder Charge After Alleged Axe Attack on Woman

A 30-year-old man, Panneer Selvam Ayyappan, appeared in court on Friday (Feb 13) facing charges of attempted murder. He is accused of slashing 30-year-old Indonesian national Fajar Nur Aini on her head, neck, and arms with an axe at around 7am on Wednesday near 11 Sims View.

According to the charge sheet, Panneer allegedly intended to kill the woman, which would have constituted murder had she died. Police reported being alerted to an assault at the residential unit at 7.05am. Preliminary investigations indicate that the two individuals were acquainted.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment following the attack. Panneer is scheduled to return to court on Feb 20. If found guilty, he could face life imprisonment with caning, or up to 20 years in prison with fines or caning, or both.
