A man was found dead after his car plunged into a river near Sekolah Kebangsaan Layang-Layang Kanan in Parit.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director of operations Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah said the 34-year-old victim was discovered inside the submerged vehicle at about 2.10pm today.
He said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 11.13pm on December 19, prompting the deployment of 10 personnel from the Parit Fire and Rescue Station.
Search and rescue operations resumed at 8am today, involving the police, fire department boats and assistance from local villagers.
“The operation covered a stretch of about 100 metres downstream from the jetty where the car was believed to have entered the river,” he said in a statement.
Firefighters later located the vehicle approximately 20 metres from the jetty and requested a crane to recover it. The victim’s body was found inside the car during the recovery process.
After investigations at the scene were completed, the body was removed from the vehicle and handed over to the police for further action.
The operation, involving 11 fire personnel, 10 police officers and about 15 villagers, concluded at around 3.30pm.
